Karma Exorcist Enters the Metroidvania Arena With Eastern Mythology and a Playtest Hook
Karma Exorcist was announced on 27 April for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC, with a limited-time PC playtest already available. The game is described as an Eastern mythology-themed side-scrolling Metroidvania, and the developers say they are still deep in the production and polishing phase. For gamers, the most interesting part is not just another Metroidvania announcement.
It is the setting and the early playtest strategy. Metroidvania fans have become very demanding because the genre is packed with good games, but setting can still make a difference. A mythological Netherworld, karma-cutting theme, and underworld story give Karma Exorcist a stronger identity than “castle, bugs, or ruined kingdom again.” The playtest also gives players a chance to influence balance, combat feel, and level flow before release. The impact: this could become one to watch if it combines cultural flavor with tight movement.
