Sony is reportedly exploring revivals of older unused PlayStation IP
PlayStation nostalgia may not be completely asleep. According to insider discussion reported by GamingBolt, Sony is allegedly exploring and considering revivals of older, unused IP. The wording is important: this does not mean Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, Gravity Rush or inFamous are suddenly guaranteed to return. It means Sony may be looking at the possibility of bringing dormant franchises back in some form. That alone is enough to excite PlayStation fans because Sony’s modern first-party output has become heavily associated with cinematic action, prestige open worlds and a smaller pool of tentpole brands. The PS1, PS2 and PS3 eras had a much stranger, broader catalog. Astro Bot reminded players how much affection remains for PlayStation’s forgotten characters, but cameos are not the same as full revivals. The big question is how Sony would handle these IPs. Internal studios are busy, so licensing to trusted external developers may be the most realistic path. Until Sony announces something concrete, this stays firmly in rumor territory, but it is a rumor fans will want to believe.
