Firework Thrower Kantaro joins Console Archives on Switch 2

Firework Thrower Kantaro’s 53 Stations of the Tokaido is this week’s Console Archives release for Nintendo Switch 2, launching June 4. That title alone already sounds like a history lesson, a travel brochure and an arcade cabinet had a very strange meeting. The game’s return fits the pattern Hamster has been building: bring back older Japanese console and arcade curiosities in a form that modern players can actually access. For Switch 2, these releases are useful because they give the platform a steady drip of preservation content between bigger launches. Not every player will rush to download Kantaro, but that is not really the point. Retro libraries become valuable when they include weird, regional and specific games too, not just the obvious all-timers everyone already knows.
